Tank-Less Water Heater

What is a Tank-Less Water Heater?

Tankless Water heater interior viewA tank-less water heater is basically what its name is, tank-less. It’s a water heater without a tank. You may be asking yourself, if the water heater does not have a tank, how does it heat up the water. The water is heated by passing through small tubes of piping that run back and forth in the box above the burner that has a flame ten times the size of a regular gas water heater as you can see from the picture. The advantage of having a tank-less water heater is it will not run until you turn on a faucet or fixture so you are not heating up water sitting in a tank that is cooling down and wasting gas. The disadvantage is, as explained on the electric water heater page, if we have an earth quake, you don’t have forty or fifty gallons of fresh water. Thats the basic concept of a tank-less water heater. If you would like more information about tank-less water heaters, give us a call or read more below. We will be more then happy to assist you in choosing the right tank-less water heater for your home or office.

Tank-Less Water Heater Repair

Most plumbers are not all that familiar with tank-less water heaters. Although they have been around for a while, most plumbers gave up on them when they first came out. The reason was when they first came on the market, plumbers in the area installed them but the problem was the water ended up passing through the small piping so slowly that when you turned on a faucet you had no pressure. Most of the tank-less water heaters that where installed in the first six months had to be taken out and the old tank type water heater was put back in. Plumbers in the area lost a lot of money so it left a bad fast in their mouth. I must say, the tank-less water heaters has come a long way now and if you size it properly, you will not have any problem at all. The other problem plumbers had was the availability of parts. A few years ago you had to wait three to five days for parts, now all parts can be purchased at most plumbing supply houses.

Tank-Less Water Heater Installation

Like I mentioned above, you have to size the heater properly or you will face the problems we had years ago. Keep in mind that not every home or business can replace the old tank type water heater with a tank-less water heater in the same location. Most tank-less water heaters have to be relocated to a new location because of the venting. The existing vent will not work with the new tank-less water heater. Also you may have to install a new gas line to the new tank-less water heater because it uses more gas then the old gas water heater and the small gas line will not keep up with the new tank-less. So when you decide to replace your water heater, make sure you call a plumber that knows all about water heaters or you will have a bad experience. We specialize in tank-less water heaters so your in good hands with us. Give us a call for a FREE estimate today.
